LEADERSHIP
President, CEO & Founder | Polyglot | Entrepreneur | Advocate for Global Understanding

Sean Patrick Hopwood is a polyglot, entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for cultural understanding. Born in 1979, Sean has dedicated over 20 years to managing translation companies and bridging communication gaps across cultures, languages, and borders.
As President, CEO, and Founder of Day Translations, Inc., Sean has built a global language services empire from the ground up, driven by a singular mission: promoting world peace through education, tolerance, and cultural awareness.
A first-generation American of Lithuanian ancestry, Sean's passion for languages began in childhood. Growing up in Bartow, Florida—a diverse community with a significant Latino population—he started learning Spanish at age eight. By the time he finished high school, Sean was already fluent in Spanish and French, with foundational knowledge of Lao and Thai.
"I'm working towards my dream of promoting peace through education, tolerance and cultural awareness."
— Sean Hopwood, President & CEO
His exceptional talent earned him an award at the State Spanish Competition in Orlando for distinguished Spanish acting skills and language achievement. Today, Sean speaks seven languages with varying degrees of fluency: English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, German, Hebrew, and Portuguese.
Sean attended the University of South Florida (USF), majoring in Spanish while taking additional courses in Arabic and French. His academic excellence led him to pursue an MBA with a focus on International Business, Economics, and Entrepreneurship.
Sean's father was a Lithuanian immigrant, and his mother is an English teacher and self-proclaimed Francophile. His grandfather, Francis Joseph Day—an ex-Marine officer who fought in two wars—taught Sean the values of hard work, professionalism, and respect.
Sean is fascinated by how the same concept can carry vastly different meanings depending on language, culture, and context. This understanding drives Day Defense's commitment to precision, accuracy, and cultural sensitivity in every mission.
Day Defense is named in honor of Sean's grandfather, Francis Joseph Day, a United States Marine who served with distinction in two wars. Francis Day embodied the values of duty, honor, and service to country—principles that form the foundation of Day Defense's mission today.
Growing up, Sean learned from his grandfather the importance of discipline, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to excellence. These lessons shaped not only Sean's character but also the culture of every company he has built.
Day Defense carries forward Francis Day's legacy by serving those who serve our nation—providing mission-critical language support to defense contractors, military units, intelligence agencies, and government operations worldwide.
Sean Hopwood's deep respect for the military stems from his grandfather's service and his understanding of the sacrifices made by service members and their families. This respect is reflected in every aspect of Day Defense's operations.
Day Defense actively recruits and employs military veterans and former war interpreters, recognizing their unique skills, cultural knowledge, and unwavering commitment to mission success.
Our linguists hold TS/SCI clearances and understand the gravity of their work. They operate with the same discipline and professionalism expected of military personnel.
Like the military, Day Defense never sleeps. Our operations center provides round-the-clock support for missions across all time zones and theaters of operation.
Every engagement is treated with the urgency and precision it deserves. We understand that accurate translation and interpretation can mean the difference between mission success and failure.
Sean Hopwood's commitment to the United States goes beyond business. As a first-generation American, he understands the opportunities and freedoms this nation provides. Day Defense exists to protect those freedoms by enabling clear communication in defense and intelligence operations.
Through Day Defense, Sean ensures that American service members, intelligence analysts, and defense contractors have access to the most accurate, culturally-aware language support available—because protecting America starts with understanding the world.
